Teeth Whitening Before Bonding — Why It Matters
At SKŌN DENTAL, the majority of our cosmetic patients choose to whiten first, because it has a significant impact on the final colour, natural appearance and long-term satisfaction of their smile.
Introduction
SKŌN DENTAL is a destination cosmetic dental clinic based in Stratford / Hackney Wick, East London, specialising in composite bonding, composite veneers, teeth whitening and teeth straightening. Patients travel from across London and Europe for our natural smile makeovers.
Why Should You Whiten First?
The Whitening Protocol at SKŌN DENTAL
Hygiene Clean
Removes surface stains and tartar so the whitening gel can penetrate the enamel effectively.
Custom Whitening Trays
We provide custom trays designed from digital scans or impressions for a perfect, professional fit.
Home Whitening
Professional-grade gel is used at home for approx. 2 weeks. We guide you on minimizing sensitivity.
Stabilisation (5 Days)
Essential: We recommend 5 days of rest after whitening before bonding. This allows the shade to settle and ensures better bonding adhesion.
What If You Don't Whiten?
It is still possible to proceed, but your bonding will be matched to your current tooth colour. If you decide to whiten later, you may need to replace your bonding sooner to fix the shade mismatch.
Whitening Comparison
- Before Bonding: Vital for seamless colour-matching directly to the enamel.
- Before Veneers: Ensures adjacent teeth match the new porcelain/composite for a harmonious, uniform smile.
